Useful info on conditions linked to scleroderma
1. MCTD
MCTD is a rare auto- immune disease which combines features of scleroderma, myositis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis. It is characterized by the presence of high blood levels of a specific autoantibody called anti-U1 ribonucleoprotein (RNP).
MCTD commonly causes:
- Joint Pain/Swelling,
- Malaise,
- Raynaud phenomenon,
- Muscle Inflammation,
- Sclerodactyly (thickening of the skin of the pads of the fingers)
2. MORPHEA
Morphea, also known as localized scleroderma, is a disorder characterized by excessive collagen deposition leading to thickening of the dermis, subcutaneous tissues, or both. Unlike systemic sclerosis, morphea lacks features such as Sclerodactyly, Raynaud phenomenon, Nailfold Capillary changes, Telangiectasias, and progressive internal organ involvement.
